The Archway Explorer

An excellent concentrated visit to the Lava Tubes, plus other interesting environmental, geological and historical features pointed out and explained on the trip to and from the tubes.

Tour Details

All tours are conducted in air-conditioned vehicles with highly trained and award winning Savannah Guides who enjoy sharing the Gulf Savannah and Undara with you. It is important that all passengers wear enclosed footwear. Whilst tours are conducted mostly out of the sun it is strongly recommended you bring drinking water and a hat. Bring your camera, as photos are welcomed. A torch is also recommended but not essential.

Our international guests may borrow a synopsis of the tour in German, French, Italian or Japanese.

Children’s rates for these tours apply to children between the ages of 4 and 14 years inclusive. Where offered, family passes include 2 adults and up to 4 children.

What You Will See

Lava Tubes. The Undara Lava Tubes are the region’s main attraction and Savannah Guides conduct tours of the tubes that are rewarding and educational experiences. These Lava Tubes are the oldest in Australia and the longest on Earth from a single volcano in modern geological times.

Australian Native Wildlife. Focusing on the wildlife and ecology of Undara this tour will introduce you to the general inhabitants of the Savannah Gulf Country with possible sightings of Agile Wallabies, shy Rock Wallbies and the amazing micro bats that call these Lava Tubes home.

Bush Walking. On the Archway Explorer you can expect to remain on solid boardwalks with some stair climbing when descending into the Lava Tubes.

Photography. Undara Volcanic National Park is a photographer’s dream with spectacular sunrises and sunsets, majestic natural scenery, and the amazing flora and fauna unique to Outback Australia. This tour will provide you with plenty of shot opportunities.

Mobility Impaired Touring

At Undara we want everyone to be able to enjoy these amazing structures.  We are able to offer a custom 2 hour tour which can include:

• Visiting a section of lava tube which has a mobility chair installed to descend into and ascend from the lava tube
• Explanation of the surrounding landscape
• Driving up the edge of the evergreen vine thicket
• Visiting the replica homestead of the early settlers

Please note: Savannah Guides are not trained carers and it is recommended participants bring an aide.

Coach transfers are not wheelchair accessible – there is a step in to the coach and two steps up to the bus main floor. Conventional vehicle is suitable for transfer into the National Park if coach is not suitable.
