Undara Experience offers a series of packages including tours of the Undara Lava Tubes and other areas of interest in the Gulf Savannah region. Coach transfers and self-drive or self-drive/hire car options are available as indicated.

Package Details

For those contemplating self-drive options, the road to Undara is fully sealed and the journey can be travelled comfortably and safely by conventional vehicle. Travel times are 4 hours from Cairns, 5 hours from Townsville and 2 hours from Georgetown.

Please note that all prices are based on twin share, in Australian dollars and GST inclusive. Reservations are essential. Single room supplements may apply. Prices are valid from April 1st 2009 to 31st March 2010.

2 Day Outback Experience- Self Drive-includes accommodation

The best way to sample the outback. Enjoy authentic outback hospitality, discover the Undara Lava Tubes and meet Aussie Wildlife in its bush home. Undara is Australia’s Accessible Outback, just a short ride from Cairns and you are in the wide open Savannah Country, this is not to be missed!

Itinerary

Day One: Departing Cairns, travel through the beautiful Cairns Highlands, then into Tropical North Queensland’s Outback region, known as the Gulf Savannah. On arrival at Undara Experience, have lunch and relax by the pool or enjoy a bush walk before joining your Savannah Guide for a magnificent Wildlife at Sunset tour, followed by an evening campfire activity. Overnight in our restored railway carriage accommodation. Lunch and dinner included.

Day Two: Awaken your tastebuds with Bush Breakfast at the Ringers Camp to the accompaniment of the morning bird chorus. Join your Savannah Guide for a Half Day Lava Tube tour, where they will share their extensive knowledge of this fascinating area. After lunch depart Undara Experience for your return journey to Cairns. Breakfast and lunch included.

Self Drive (1UN): Undara Experience is an approved destination for hire vehicles. Available all year round.

Day Three: Rise to Bush Breakfast. Day at leisure, perhaps take time to explore the local area on one of the many self guided walks or perhaps take a walk to the One Hundred Mile Swamp to view the array of birdlife. Afternoon departure to Cairns from Undara Experience. Breakfast and lunch included.

 3 Day Outback Explorer- Self Drive, excludes accommodation

Travel the Savannah Way and see the Gulf Savannah. From any direction, Undara Experience is the perfect base from which to explore. (all times are approximate)

• Undara Experience is an approved destination for hired motor homes. Allow 4 hours from Cairns, 5 hours from Townsville and 1 hour from Mt Surprise. (Road access and self-drive information)
• Free time to enjoy resort facilities including marked walking tracks, swimming pool, bird watching, a snooze in the shade
• Self cater in practical camp kitchens or you may prefer to dine in Fettler’s Iron Pot Bistro
• Evening Activities – meet at the Saloon Car Bar at 8.00pm
• Overnight powered van site in the shady camp ground
• Half Day tour of Undara Lava Tubes with Savannah Guide (depart from Reception 8.00am)

• Wildlife at Sunset Tour at approx 5.15pm

• Day at leisure, after check out you are welcome to park in the day visitors car park and continue to enjoy Undara Experience’s facilities until you recommence your journey.

Day One: On arrival at Undara Experience settle into shady bush surrounds with abundant wildlife. Rejuvenate in the peace and quiet, enjoy a refreshing dip in the resort pool or take one of the many bush walking trails. Free evening activity conducted with a Savannah Guide, program changes nightly. Stay in a powered van site in the shady camp grounds. Excellent central amenities, practical camp kitchens and individual campfire pits (firewood available for purchase).

Day Two: Meet your Savannah Guide for a fascinating Half Day Lava Tube tour later followed by an evening Wildlife at Sunset tour. Evening campfire activity and stay overnight in a powered van site.

Day Three: Day at leisure, perhaps take time to explore the local area on one of the many self guided walks or perhaps take a walk to the One Hundred Mile Swamp to view the array of birdlife. After check out, you are welcome to park your vehicle in the day visitors parking bay and continue to use Lodge facilities until you wish to recommence your journey.
