The Outback Classroom
Imagine your class in a technology free environment, enjoying a rich learning experience like no other on earth. Here, there are no computers, no televisions, no video games – just down to earth basics and the Australian bush - The Outback Classroom
Undara Experience is a natural geological attraction enhanced with custom built accommodation and amenities, set amid thousands of square kilometres of pristine tropical Savannah woodlands.
The focus of the attraction is the Undara Lava Tubes, which are part of the longest lava flow from a single volcanic crater anywhere on this planet.
Children of all ages thrive in this naturally stimulating environment. Our unique educational program encourages them to think laterally, interact with others, communicate meaningfully and make discoveries about the surrounding ecology.

Conferences and Meetings
Undara Experience is ideal for a distraction-free conference, and has all facilities on site. Access is via conventional vehicle from both Cairns and Townsville, scheduled coach service from Cairns, or air transfers right to the Lodge.
Leichhardt’s Room, built of northern timbers in traditional Queensland Railway Station style, seats 50 people in theatre configuration and 30 people in classroom configuration in air-cooled, sound-proofed comfort.
The 12.4m x 5.8m hall has a high ceiling, generous double exterior doors, timber louvres and ample verandahs that make the venue feel part of the natural environment rather than a sterile lecture theatre.
Our professional meeting service allows organisers to plan with confidence; conference equipment will be arranged to your specific and exact requirements. Equipment available includes:
- 1800mm x 900mm mobile double sided whiteboard
- Gilkon overhead projector
- Projection screen
- DVD & VHS Video Play
- Surround Sound System
The meeting centre is equipped with its own kitchenette and two lockable internal storage areas.
Leichhardt’s Room is an integral part of Undara Lava Lodge, so delegates can take advantage of all facilities and leisure activities not only during the meeting or conference, but also as part of pre- or post-touring programs.
Families and accompanying guests are also well catered for, with a range of suggested tour and activity schedules available.
Presentations and Performances
An outdoor amphitheatre with seating for up to 250 and a raised stage opened recently at Undara Experience.
Nestled among tall gum trees in the bush Ooramin Place Amphitheatre provides a perfect setting for conference sessions, presentations and artistic performances.
The facility offers groups of 25 to 250 a comfortable, atmospheric venue that expands to suit their needs.
There is plenty of power for light, sound and stage equipment. It is positioned close to all Lodge facilities to ensure catering, technical and comfort requirements are simple.
It is common to have wallabies, kangaroos and birds share the amphitheatre with guests.
Incentives
Undara presents an ideal location for incentive programs and featured themed events. From colonial style dinner under the stars and picnics at the Heritage Hut, to bush poetry or a sunset cocktail session at the Bluff, the Undara events team will design a program to suit your group’s specific requirements.
