Macropods (Kangaroos)

There are a huge number of Macropods found within the vicinity of the Undara Lodge. Right outside your accommodation you may very well spot one, two or even a group of kangaroos feeding on the native grasses. Take your time and enjoy the sight, these animals are completely wild but will still venture close to the lodge to take advantage of the fresh water and lush growth.

Some of the animals you are likely to see are:

  • Eastern Grey Kangaroo (they are the bigger ones)
  • Antilopine Kangaroo (look for the antelope-like face)
  • Pretty-Faced Wallaby (you will recognise them by their distinctive facial stripes)
  • Aglie Wallaby (a distinct line along their hind quarters)
  • Swamp Wallaby (stockier animal with a distinct brown tinge)\
  • Euro or Walleroo (the heavily built macropod, short, stocky and powerful looking)
  • Rat Kangaroo (much smaller than the others, it is a nocturnal creature sometimes seen around the bistro)
